  • The $20 Double Eagle Set Gauden & Liberty set contains the only two Double Eagles ever issued, and they are the largest legal gold denomination coins ever issued for circulation in American. Together they make up 66.86 grams of solid 22 carat gold! The Liberty Head, designed by James B. Longacre was produced from 1849-1907. The obverse features Lady Liberty (Liberty Head) surrounded by 13 stars which represents the 13 colonies. A purposely basic design in order to emphasize the true size of the large gold coin. The reverse features an eagle modelled on the bird on the Great Seal of the United States – known as the Heraldic Eagle. The Augustus Saint-Gaudens Walking Liberty coin was produced from the first year that the Liberty head stopped – 1907 and production ended in 1933. The obverse on this coin is an advance from the Liberty head as it features Lady Liberty striding forward holding a torch and olive branch, backed by the rays of the sun, surrounded by 46 stars for the states (or 48 stars 1912 dated onwards). The reverse depicts an eagle in flight, and below the eagle is the famous ’In God We Trust’ motto. The complete history of $20 double eagles- 84 years of American history in one set!
